How do you say “I live in Tokyo.” in Japanese?
Today’s phrase is :
I live in (country / city).
(country / city) に住んでます。
ni sundemasu
- I = わたしは* watashiwa
- live = 住んでいます** sundeimasu
- in = に ni
*We do not usually use “わたしは (watashiwa)” in spoken language.
**”住んでいます (sundeimasu)” often becomes “住んでます (sundemasu)” in everyday conversation.
When you want to say “I live in _ .”, put the place where you live just before “に (ni)”.
For example, if you live in Tokyo, you can say like this :
東京に住んでます。
toukyou*** ni sundemasu
***We do not clearly pronounce the vowels in the middle and at the end of a word. We pronounce “toukyou” like “tōkyō”.
