How do you say “I’m happy for you!” in Japanese?
Today’s phrase is :
I’m happy for you!
よかったね!
yokattane
If you want to speak politely, you can say :
よかったですね!
yokattadesune
- I’m happy = わたしはうれしい watashiwa ureshii
- for you = あなたのために anatanotameni
The literal translation of “I’m happy for you!” is “わたしはあなたのためにうれしい!(watashiwa anatanotameni ureshii)”, but that sounds unnatural.
We say “よかったね!” when something good happened to the person we are talking to.
