How do you say “What’s the date today?” in Japanese?
Today’s phrase is :
What’s the date today?
kyou* nannichi dakke
If you want to ask politely, you can say :
kyou* nannichi deshitakke
*We do not clearly pronounce the vowels at the end of a word. We pronounce “kyou” like “kyō”.
- what’s …? ＝ … は何？ wa nani
- the date ＝ 日付 hizuke
- today ＝ 今日の kyouno
The literal translation of “What’s the date today?” is “今日の日付は何？(kyouno hizukewa nani)”, but you can simply say “今日何日だっけ？” which sounds more natural.
