How do you say “movies” in Japanese?
Today’s phrase is :
What’s your favorite movie?
好きな映画なに?
sukina eiga* nani
If you want to ask politely, you can say :
好きな映画は何ですか?
sukina eiga* wa nandesuka
*We do not clearly pronounce the vowels in the middle of a word. We pronounce “eiga” like “ēga”.
Pronunciation
We say “映画 (eiga)” for “movies”.
- What is … ? = … はなに? wa nani
- your = あなたの** anatano
- favorite = 好きな sukina
- movie = 映画 eiga
**We do not usually say “あなたの (anatano)” in everyday conversation.
