How do you say “What’s your name?” in Japanese?

名前聞いてもいいですか?

 namae kiitemo iidesuka*

*We do not clearly pronounce the vowels in the middle of a word. We pronounce “kiitemo” like “kītemo”, “iidesuka” like “īdesuka”.

  • 名前 = your name
  • 聞いてもいいですか = can I ask

The literal meaning of “名前聞いてもいいですか?” is “Can I ask your name?”.

We do not usually say “I = 私は (watashiwa)” or “your = あなたの (anatano)” in everyday conversation.
