How do you say “You look like your mom.” in Japanese?

Today’s phrase is :

_ に似てるね。

 _ ni niterune

If you want to speak politely, you can say :

_ に似てますね。

 _ ni nitemasune

When you want to say “You look like _ .” in Japanese, put the name of the person he/she looks like just before “に ni”.

For example, if you want to say “You look like your mom.”, you can say like this :

  • mom = お母さん okaasan*

*We pronounce like “okāsan”.


 okaasanni niterune

Or politely :


 okaasanni nitemasune

  • you look like … = あなたは … に似てるね anatawa … ni niterune
  • your mom = あなたのお母さん anatano okaasan

We do not usually say “あなたは (= you)” or “あなたの (= your)” in everyday conversation.
